The Google support site has been updated to say that you'll need a patch after you update your box.

Another issue that' we've experienced is to have the serving cease. It's occured twice. The first time Google reported the following issue:____2422739 [REGRESSION] In some cases in 6.2 Frontend will not start if alerts are enabled____In which they turned off alerts, performed a patch and reenabled them.____The second occurance of serving failing occured on one of our dev boxes and we have not fixed yet.

So after a half dozen upgrades in the past couple of days here is an update:
1) A new error message has been added that is not documented. Basically the appliance performs a network test every 30 minutes based on the crawl urls. Even if you have stopped the crawler this test is still performed. However, you'll now get an error message: "Crawl has stopped because network connectivity test of Start URLs failed. Refer to the documentation for more details". this documentation is: http://code.google.com/apis/searchappliance/docum...
2) The serving has stopped in several cases. This was resolved by simply rebooting the appliance. Take care if you are attempting a reboot in a case which you do not have phsyical access to the appliance. We would recommend contacting Google support to investigate the root cause.
